The Australian Legal Convention 2025 – By Invitation Only

A Council of Chief Justices Event

The purpose of the Australian Legal Convention (ALC) is to bring together a cross-section of organisations within the Australian legal system to provide a national framework for engaging in dialogue to identify and explore responses to current and emerging issues.

Seven broad themes

The dialogue will be structured by reference to seven broad themes:

  • Legitimacy
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Family and Sexual Violence
  • Institutional Well-being
  • First Nations Justice
  • Access to Justice
  • Legal Education

Most themes will be introduced in plenary sessions before dividing into streams to facilitate discussions on identified topics.

Questions to be explored at the ALC

The questions to be explored in relation to each topic are:

  1. What are the challenges
  2. What are the impediments to meeting those challenges?
  3. What are the solutions?
  4. What can we achieve in the next 5 years?

Attendance at the ALC is by prior invitation. When registering for the ALC, participants will have the following options:

Convention inclusions

The Convention will include The State of the Judicature Address by the Honourable Stephen Gageler AC, Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia.

The inclusions will vary dependant on the event options selected.

Not included: cost of travel and accommodation.
